Denman EA Horse Trials 2012

Glenormiston Killian and Ashley competed in their first event together at the Denman Horse Trials on the weekend of 30th June and 1st July 2012. Killian, until now, has always been ridden by Sam but whilst Glenormiston Ballymalloe is out in the paddock for a well earned break and Sam is riding a Thoroughbred, Ashley decided to jump on board Killian. And if you have to ride someone else’s horse what an amazing pony to be able to ride.

The dressage was held in the fog on Saturday morning and whilst they have not quite polished their dressage yet, the combination completed a very nice and correct test to finish 12th in the standing in the Junior Newcomers Division with Cross Country and Showjumping to be completed on the Sunday.

Sunday morning dawned icy cold but at least there was no fog in sight making the early start to the Cross Country phase a lot safer and a much better spectator sport! Ashley and Killian rode out early being back number 10 and completed a magnificent clear round with just a couple of time penalties for coming home too fast. Considering that the combination had not even schooled a Cross Country fence prior to the event it was a fantastic effort.

A beautiful clear Show Jump round finished off a very respectable first competition for Ashley and Killian with the pair taking out 8th placing in the Junior Newcomer division.

The next competition for the duo with be at the Quirindi PC ODE on the last weekend of the school holidays. With a little more work on the dressage the results are looking very promising ...
