Glenormiston Killian and Glenormiston Slieveroe recently competed at the local Pony Club Showjumping Championships at Singleton and came home with a swag of ribbons between them.
Killer was pulled out of the paddock two days before the event after Sam's thoroughbred tore a suspensory ligament and was sidelined for 6 months. Sam and Killian rode some amazing courses to finish the weekend with a placing in every event bar one, with a one second time penalty denying the pair a chance at the jump off. When the pointscore was decided they missed the Championship title on a countback!
A double clear in the Grand Prix was probably the feature of their weekend although the angles taken to secure 2nd place in the Take your Own Line were pretty spectacular. Sam and Killian have now graded up to B Grade an impressive feat in itself considering the pony is only 14.1hh and is consistently jumping 90cm rounds.
Ashley and Sly were competing at their first Showjumping competition together and whilst it was a learning experience for the combination, their results were really impressive.
With an odd rail due to inexperience on the pony's part and an unusual line taken into a double involving pot plants (they really were very scary pot plants) there were no championship ribbons but a heap of fun was enjoyed by the pair. Ashley even decided to give Sly the opportunity to run the 6 bar event with the combination successfully jumping 90cm under lights to top off a great weekend's competition.
Both ponies are now en route to the Connemara Pony Showcase at Werribee in September 2012 ...
