Glenormiston Killian
2001Â Grey Gelding (Castle Baron x Glenormiston Ballycarra by Domo Cavallo Praize)
In 2005 we went in search of a Connemara pony to ride on for our children who were then 5 and 7 years old. Having had a Connemara pony as a kid myself I never forgot the versatility or the amazing temperament of the breed. We searched high and low and soon discovered that a purebred Connemara pony was not an easy thing to find. As luck would have it we were introduced to Sue Clarke at Glenormiston Connemaras and the rest is history.
We could not have had a better reintroduction to the breed and were blessed to have found the most amazing pony first up in ‘Killer’. Killian was a very green baby when we purchased him as a four year old but after having been ridden by every member of the family he matured into the ultimate performance pony and ‘kid’s pony’ when required.
Over the years Killian excelled in the fields of showjumping and eventing and was runner up for the Inaugural NSW Performance Award under saddle in 2011. Sam and Killer won the Newcomer Junior Division of the Scone Horse Trials and then went on to place 1st in the Quirindi Hunter Trial Open Division amongst many other wins in that year. Killian returned early in 2012 with his first event being the NSW Pony Club State Jumping Equitation Championships and it was only upwards from then on.
Killian and Sam competed in every conceivable discipline imaginable, from Pony Club to State Championships, Sporting to King of the Ranges Stockmans Challenge. A more genuine pony you will never find and it was a heartbreaking decision when we sold him on to Kate Vallance in Tasmania but with Sam being away at boarding school he was too good a pony to stand in the paddock.
